PhD Programme at Kerala School of Mathematics

Engage in Deep Mathematical Inquiry

The PhD programme at the Kerala School of Mathematics (KSoM) fosters an environment of rigorous academic training and independent research. Scholars are encouraged to explore the foundations and frontiers of mathematics through structured coursework and close academic engagement.

In the first year, students undertake an intensive 36-credit coursework designed to strengthen their theoretical foundations and introduce advanced topics in pure and applied mathematics. This phase is critical and forms the basis for their transition into research.

Only upon successful completion of the coursework, typically at the end of the first year, students are formally admitted to the research phase. At this stage, they are assigned a research advisor and join one of KSoM’s active research groups based on mutual academic alignment.

Current faculty interests span diverse and evolving areas—from the geometry of complex manifolds and topological properties of groups, to questions in analytic number theory involving prime distributions, special values of L-functions, and interactions between algebraic and analytic techniques.

PhD scholars participate regularly in seminars, colloquia, and national workshops, contributing to a collaborative and intellectually vibrant research culture. KSoM provides the academic resources, mentorship, and institutional support necessary for doctoral candidates to pursue high-quality mathematical research.
